Job Summary

We are seeking a Research Associate for our Cambridge site with experience handling and cultivating filamentous fungi to carry out standard genetic techniques like mutagenesis and selection to improve the production of secondary metabolites to support the core research behind LifeMine’s genomically-enabled drug discovery platform.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Work independently to generate a library of mutagenized fungal strains of importance to LifeMine’s programs.
  • Develop methods to screen mutagenized strains for enhanced metabolite production.
  • Ability to grow and improve fermentation conditions through different growth conditions in small scale.
  • Ability to test fermentation for the production of secondary metabolites in shake flasks assays or similar.
  • Help establish a high throughput capability storage of mutagenized fungal strain libraries.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Synthetic Biology and Genomics teams to determine the genome sequence of improved strains.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from the Bioprocessing team to provide improved fermentation conditions.
  • Collaborate with the Natural Products Chemistry team to provide small-scale fermentation broth as needed


Requirements

Job Requirements 

  • B.S. in biology, microbiology, mycology, or related field.
  • Experience handling microorganisms with emphasis on filamentous fungi
  • Demonstration of good sterile technique and ability to handle large number of strains daily
  • Experience with shake flask cultivation of microbial strains.
  • Experience with a variety of random mutagenesis techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task during daily routine
  • A desire to be in a laboratory setting, being involved in the design and downstream generation of scientific data
  • A sense of adventure and excitement to help build a new company and work in a highly dynamic team environment
